Friday November 22, 2019
The City of Whyalla advises that the toilet block in Civic Park will be closed at all times on weekends until further notice due to ongoing vandalism.
Council regrets this decision but feels it is necessary at this time in light of the most recent senseless vandalism which resulted in extensive damage to the facilities.
In a warning to those responsible, Council has contacted to police to review the CCTV footage taken from the new cameras in Civic Park at the time the vandalism took place.
This footage will enable police to identify those persons in the vicinity when the vandalism took place.

SENSELESS: Smashed toilets in the Civic Park amenity.
City of Whyalla CEO Chris Cowley said Council has also put in place a new security contract from December 1 which includes three nightly patrols of Civic Park.
“We don’t want to close these toilets for the people doing the right thing but we have no choice right now due to two consecutive weekends of vandalism,” Mr Cowley said.
“From December 1 there will be three nightly patrols of Civic Park.
“We also have the new lighting and CCTV cameras in place to identify people in the area at the time vandalism is occurring.

MORONIC: More damage to the facilities in Civic Park.
“Council also encourages members of the public to ring the police direct on the Crime Stoppers number 1800 333 000 of they see anyone damaging public, or other, property.
“These senseless attacks on public property hurt everyone in the community and we will not rest in trying to stop this behaviour and bring those responsible to justice.”
The Civic Park toilets will be closed on weekends until further notice. The Schulz Reserve toilets will still be opened during the day on weekends during cricket games but will be closed in the evening.
