READY TO RENOVATE: The Bennett Oval grandstand after the roof was taken off.

Thursday, October 31, 2019

Stage One of the Bennett Oval redevelopment project is well on track.

South Australian company Mossop Constructions + Interiors, working with local contractors, is making good progress as the crews prepare the old grandstand structure for a complete refit.

The old toilet and shower block has also been demolished with footing preparation completed for the new wet-area amenities. The grandstand roof has been taken off and the interior is being gutted.

SOON TO BE NEW: The old shower and toilet block is demolished at Bennett Oval.

Mossop Project Manager, Michael Pietrafesa said work was progressing smoothly with his crews working seamlessly with local contractors and labourers.

“This is a fantastic community project and we’re enjoying working with locals on this redevelopment,” Michael said.

“Whyalla Earthworks has done a great job on this stage of the project and we’re looking forward to working with more local operators as the process continues.

“There’s a lot of work to do but we’re excited as the project starts to take shape and the early progress has been great.”

CLEAN SLATE: Demolition continues at Bennett Oval.

Stage One of the Bennett Oval redevelopment will have the new changerooms and catering facilities ready for the Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs pre-season AFL match on March 7 next year. This Marsh Community Series pre-season match was made possible by the Gupta family sponsorship of Port Adelaide and was the catalyst for the redevelopment project.

Also working on the Stage One redevelopment project, Adelaide company Greene Eden is currently installing new underground irrigation.

When this work is finished the oval will undergo a resurfacing program to bring the playing surface up to AFL and national cricket standard.

CONSTRUCTION STARTS: Footings are prepared for the new shower and toilet block.

The $2.8m Stage One of the Bennett Oval redevelopment has been assisted by a $890,850 State Government grant from the Grassroots Football, Cricket and Netball Facility Program (The Grassroots Program), administered through the Office of Recreation, Sport and Racing. Half of this money will go towards improvements at Memorial Oval.

Contributing to this grant was the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and the South Australia Cricket Association (SACA).

Subsequent stages of the Bennett Oval redevelopment would involve the integration of other sports and associated facilities into the area to create a greater sporting precinct.
