The City of Whyalla’s airport has passed a security compliance audit with flying colours.

An audit of the Whyalla Airport was conducted last month by aviation security inspectors from the Aviation and Maritime Security Division (AMS) of the Australian Government. The audit covered airport management, staff security-related roles, responsibilities and training, access control to the airside area, tenants and contractors and visitor identification card (VIC) issuing procedures and records.

Council was informed this month that the audit did not identify any non-compliances at the Whyalla Airport.

Council CEO Chris Cowley said the audit result was an excellent result for the airport and the community.

“Not many airports get this sort of pass mark,” Mr Cowley said.

“This is a credit to Manager Airport Operations Howard Aspey and his staff for their dedicated efforts in this area.

“It is these efforts that make our airport one of the safest in the country and an airport we can all use with complete confidence and no fear for our safety.”
