Whyalla’s final South Australia’s History Festival event happens this week with Whyalla: The Aboriginal Story.
A public lecture about the rich and diverse history of Aboriginal people in Whyalla and beyond, it also coincides with National Reconciliation Week.
The lecture, to be presented by City of Whyalla Curator Paul Mazourek, is the only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history festival event being held outside metropolitan Adelaide. Paul said the lecture would be an informative and enjoyable talk about our indigenous history.
“We will cover the history of Aboriginal people in the Whyalla region and beyond addressing the time chronology, natural environment, people, hunting, fishing and gathering, and dreaming stories,” Paul said.
“Aboriginal people witnessed the important changes in the environment that shaped their lives and we will be able to reveal a unique fishing ritual not recorded anywhere else in Australia.”
Whyalla: The Aboriginal Story is on Wednesday, May 29. It starts at 11am in the Council Chamber on Darling Terrace with free admission and no need to book. Call Paul Mazourek on 8640 3444 for more information.
