Whyalla will feature on national television show The Living Room tonight.

Whyalla continues to shine in the national television spotlight after celebrity vet Dr Chris Brown’s dive adventure with our famous cuttlefish.

chrisbrownChris travelled to Whyalla to film a segment on the cuttlefish phenomena which will air on The Living Room program tonight (Friday, May 25).

Chris was joined by Whyalla Visitor Centre Team Leader Teresa Coles for the scuba dive off the Pt Lowly coast. The day-long visit gave the national television celebrity an eye-opening taste of Whyalla and he was suitably impressed.

“Not just the cuttlefish, Chris and his film crew were blown away by the coastline and the scenery,” Teresa said.

“They drove down the coast road, stopping along the way and were in awe.”

The dive itself was, however, the highlight as Teresa joined Chris in the water to experience the amazing mating rituals and light displays of these amazing creatures. Both Chris and Teresa were fitted with Go Pro cameras while the film crew captured all the reactions, interviews and commentary above the water.

Teresa was interviewed by the crew for some background information on Whyalla while Chris enthused about the unique experience.

“Dr Chris has obviously done a lot of things in his career on television but I think this was something he’d never witnessed,” Teresa said.

“He was in awe of the display we saw as some of the males put on a show in their endeavours to impress the females.

chrisbrown“We spent virtually the whole day out there so I’m really looking forward to seeing this episode and seeing Whyalla promoted for this wonderful phenomena we have here on our doorstep.”

As for the heartthrob television veterinary surgeon himself, Teresa said what you see on television is what you get in real life. Despite it being a cool day with the water temperature more than a bit chilly, Teresa said the international television celebrity was a pleasure to be around.

“He really is like you see him on television, nothing fazed him, he was cheerful and chatty,” she said.

“We had to stay in the water for extended times, staying still and doing repeated shots but he never complained and genuinely enjoyed the experience.”

Chris Brown is an Australian veterinarian, television personality and author. He is best known for his television series Bondi Vet, which began screening in 2009. He hosts "The Open Road with Doctor Chris" on CBS and is part of Channel Ten’s The Living Room with Amanda Keller.

The Whyalla cuttlefish segment will air on The Living Room program tonight (Friday, May 25) on Channel 10 at 7.30pm. It will then be available on the tenplay streaming website.
