EXERCISE: The simulated news article for the Royal Military College - Duntroon cadets' first activity in Whyalla as part of Exercise Binh Ba
The army wants you!
The Royal Military College - Duntroon (RMC-D) staff cadets will be holding a simulated non-combatant evacuation (NEO) in Whyalla on Saturday, November 17 as the opening activity of Exercise Binh Ba.
Captain Brett Watson said this activity involves all trainees on the exercise and sees the evacuation of local citizens from the war region of Whyalla to Australia.
"We would like members of the public to turn up to either of the Evacuee Assembly Areas at Stuart High (Bastyan) or Samaritan College (Norrie) between 8am and 10am with ID," Captain Watson said.
"From there they will be screened, moved to the Evacuee Handling Centre at the airport where they will be processed and then 'evacuated' to Australia."
Participants will then be retuned to the schools. Participation time is anticipated to be between 1-2 hours.
"Local community participation increases the realism and complexity of the task and enhances the training value for the future officers of the Australian Army," Capt Watson said.
Below is the intel released by the RMC-D for this exercise:
1. Brief fictional news article talking about the ‘conflict’ in Cultana, how Whyalla is ‘destabilising’ and the likelihood of authorities ordering the evacuation of citizens
2. The 'order' from authorities to local citizens to evacuate
3. Key information for participants in the NEO on Sat, 17 Nov
4. Documentation to be handed to Australian troops on arrival at the Evacuee Assembly Areas
