Sanjeev Gupta obviously enjoyed the GFG Alliance 2017 Whyalla Christmas Pageant and After Pageant Fair.
The executive chairman of the Gupta Family Group Alliance, that now owns and runs the Whyalla steelworks and associated mines, was so chuffed with the pageant, he sent a couple of letters of thanks to council.
In one letter to the Mayor Lyn Breuer, Mr Gutpa extended his “sincere gratitude” to the City of Whyalla for the “outstanding efforts” in bringing together the pageant and fair. Mr Gupta and his young family were noticeable participants in the pageant.
“My family thoroughly enjoyed the day and it’s an event we’ll remember for a long time to come, particularly the thousands of smiling faces on everyone attending – both young and old,” Mr Gupta said in his letter.
“You should be proud of your team’s efforts and what they were able to achieve, just as we were proud to have our name associated with such a significant event in this city’s history.
“Your team did an amazing job.”
Mr Gupta singled out council’s pageant organiser Rebecca Neilson and council business services officer Pete Santucci for special praise.
Commenting on Rebecca’s “tireless work”, he sent another letter to Pete who put together all the council floats and, at the last minute, constructed a float for the large contingent of GFG Alliance workers.
“I was very impressed by the standard of the floats on display and would particularly like to thank you for your tireless efforts in constructing our GFG Alliance float at the last minute – it looked fantastic,” Mr Gupta said in his letter to Pete.
Council also acknowledges the mountain of work done by the Whyalla Apex Club and, in particular, Apex’s Damien Trenwith for his leading role in a pageant organised as a joint venture between the Apex club and Council.
