The City of Whyalla wants to know what you think about our child care facility.

Council is conducting a standard review as part of its commitment to providing the very best child-care service for the community through the Whyalla Child Care Centre.

Council CEO Chris Cowley said this review was part of Council’s due diligence and local government obligations and an important component is what residents think of the Council-run facilities and the service provided.

The review will involve analysing the operation, consulting and engaging with the community, comparing the centre against others and then making any recommendations. It is designed to ensure that services are relevant, appropriate, accessible and affordable.

“We want people in the community to tell us what they expect from the centre and how satisfied they are with the current service,” Mr Cowley said.

“Our commitment is to provide the best-value and best-practice services for our community.

“This involves a strategy of taking a proactive, collaborative approach to the revitalisation of all council services to ensure they adapt to the changing needs and expectations of the community.”

The key community-consultation component of the review will involve a survey residents can fill out online or by obtaining a hard copy. Council will also be meeting with parents in-person at the next Child Care Centre Advisory Committee meeting being held on Tuesday, August 7.

The survey is completely anonymous and the information gained for the survey will only be used by the Council to aid in the future design and delivery of our community’s services. Questions will range from how often you use the centre to your satisfaction of the service provided and simply what the child care centre should “stop, start or keep” doing.

The Whyalla Child Care Centre is a non-profit and government-subsidised community-based centre operated by Council. All money received from fees and grants is used to pay wages and cover operating costs.

“This is your child care centre so it is vitally important we find out what you think about it and its services,” Mr Cowley said.

The survey can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q88JRKB with hard copies available from the Whyalla Child Care Centre or Council offices in Civic Building on Darling Terrace.
