GARDEN MAKEOVER: The City of Whyalla gardens crew gets busy in the shadows of the HMAS Whyalla at the visitor centre.

There’s an even better view of the HMAS Whyalla after a City of Whyalla parks and gardens crew got stuck into a section of the gardens at the Whyalla Visitor and Information Centre.

What started as a job to clear some trees from the boundary fence, ended up a full-scale makeover of the grounds between the visitor centre and our magnificent vessel.

Once the trees were cleared off the fence, the gardens crew saw an opportunity to do an extra good job of the assignment and set about getting the impromptu project done.

The crew has now spent three days on the makeover, clearing a load of tea trees that were growing up near the ship and generally giving the area a decent makeover.

Visitor Centre Team Leader Teresa Coles said it was a great spur of the moment project that had really added to the centre.

“It has really opened things up and you get a better view of the HMAS Whyalla now,” Teresa said.

“The work has added to the ambience of the area.

“The crew did a great job and show a real pride and ownership of the area.

“We love having them come around.”
