PAGEANT SPIRIT: Students from the Whyalla Stuart R7 Campus work on their Christmas present costumes.
Pageant fever has struck Whyalla Stuart Campus R-7 students with a bright and shiny entry planned for this year’s event.
The students at the Whyalla Stuart Campus R-7 were asked what they would like to do for their “Genius Hour” activity recently and entering the GFG Alliance Whyalla Christmas Pageant was the popular choice.
Enlisting the help of the students from the Whyalla Stuart Early Childhood Centre, the kids have set about creating their Shiny-theme entry for the pageant on November 24. With the help of teachers, the students have obtained a 5m flat-bed truck which they will decorate in their shiny theme.
Whyalla Stuart Principal Linda Weetra said the kids had jumped at the chance to be involved in this year’s pageant.
“We put the idea to the children for Genius Hour and they loved it,” Linda said.
“So we asked them to come up with ideas for a theme and then vote on them.
“One of our little ones from Reception came up with the shiny idea and that got the most votes.”
Linda said the entry had become an even more inclusive project for the school with different classes coming up with different projects to create the pageant entry which is expected to involve more than 30 students on the day.
“We’ve got one class making gift-box costumes to wear, another class is working on a dance routine and another will be doing gymnastic moves with our float,” Linda said.
“Two classes will be decorating the truck, another is working on a Christmas tree while other students are making masks and hats to wear.
“They are all very excited about it.”
Linda said the schools’ entry was not only generating a lot of excitement for the students, it was helping promote the school and the good work being done by students, teachers and parents.

GETTING READY: The Christmas present costumes will be just one features of the Shiny Christmas pageant entry.
There is still time for community groups, sporting clubs, families or anyone interested, to put in a float for the GFG Alliance Whyalla Christmas Pageant being organised by the Whyalla Apex Club and the City of Whyalla.
The pageant will be run from 5pm to 6pm with the floats, marching bands, clowns, elves and of course Santa himself. It finishes at Ada Ryan Gardens where the After-Pageant Fair kicks off at 6pm with children’s entertainment, stalls and a spectacular fireworks display.
