PROUD DAY: Roveena Innasimuthu accepts her citizenship from Whyalla Mayor Lyn Breuer.

Roveena Innasimuthu has proudly accepted her Australian citizenship from Whyalla Mayor Lyn Breuer at a ceremony in the Council chambers.

Roveena joined her husband Steve in Whyalla five years ago and they’ve now started a family with son Jarrod born in Australia. Steve works for OneSteel and Roveena said she was happy to join him and her Aussie-born son as an official Australian citizen.

“It is nice to join my husband and son as an Aussie,” Roveena said.

Hailing from the south of India, Roveena said the weather, the community and less hussle and bussle were the best parts of living in Whyalla.

“There are a lot of people and crowds where I come from,” Roveena said.

“Here there is such a welcoming community, less people and a lot less traffic.”

Roveena is interested in nursing and now that she has her citizenship she is keen to do some studies.

“We have settled in nicely in Whyalla so I’d now like to do some studying,” Roveena said.
