The City of Whyalla has moved quickly to head off another plumbing problem at the Whyalla Recreation Centre.
After overcoming a difficult leakage problem in the centre’s main pool, council works crews did a complete check of all the centre’s pools and found another leak, this time in the spa pool.
While not as serious as the issue that closed down the main pool for several weeks, this leak will, however, required the spa pool to be out of action on Monday, March 5. Council will close the spa pool at the end of business on Sunday night and has plumbing experts from Adelaide coming in first thing on Monday morning to do the necessary tests and repairs.
It is envisaged that the spa pool will be only closed on Monday. Council CEO Chris Cowley congratulated the works crews on their diligence in going through the entire centre to make sure every pool is working properly and is safe to use.
“We are dealing with pools that are 20 and 40 years old, so it is wise to do regular checks on these facilities,” Mr Cowley said.
“This spa pool problem wasn’t as noticeable as the main pool issue but is a problem that needed to be fixed and our work crews have done a good job to identify, source the necessary plumbing expertise and hopefully fix it with a minimal disruption.
“We were blown away by the patience and understanding our recreational centre members and pool users while we fixed the main pool and apologise in advance for what will hopefully just be one day out of action for the spa pool on Monday.”
The issue with the spa pool will not affect any other activities at the recreation centre on Monday. For full information on the centre’s activities and facilities, call the team on 8645 5488.
