Whyalla Mayor Clare McLaughlin has paid tribute to the volunteers that made Sunday’s Carols in the Park such a success.

Mayor McLaughlin said she was honoured to speak at the annual event in Civic Park and said Council was proud to support Whyalla’s premiere Christmas carols event.

“It was a great night with good weather and another huge crowd with so many happy faces,” Mayor McLaughlin said.

“It was so heartening to see so many families and children from throughout the city coming along.

“Civic Park really is a great venue for this spectacular event and it draws people in from every corner of the city."

Mayor McLaughlin said the organisers of the event – the Whyalla Lions Club and Stormfront Productions – deserved another pat on the back as did all the volunteers on the day and the community groups that set up stalls.

“I had a walk around to talk to all the community groups running stalls and the vibe on the night was so upbeat, positive and happy,” Mayor McLaughlin said.

“These events illustrate the strength of our community and show why we are moving forward into such an exciting time in our history.

“I think everyone could sense this on Sunday evening and it made for an extra-special night of carols and entertainment.

“Congratulations to all the organisers, performers and everyone that came along … it was a wonderful event.”
