The City of Whyalla acknowledges that a report has been made to South Australia Police accusing Mayor Lyn Breuer of assault.
City of Whyalla Chief Executive Officer Chris Cowley said it would be inappropriate for Council to make comment on the contents of the report as it was a police matter and in the hands of the Mayor’s lawyer.
“These events have no bearing on the running of the city, operations at council offices or regular council services,” Mr Cowley said.
“It is business as usual for Council as we continue to build on what has been a stellar six months for the city.”
The Mayor has informed Council that she was interviewed by the police over the report made to them and she will receive a summons to appear in court next month.
Mayor Breuer has informed Council she strenuously denies the contents of the report made to police and will vigorously defend any charges.
Mayor Breuer has informed Council she will be taking a week’s leave, effectively immediately, to seek further legal advice.
