Time is running out to get tickets for the popular Junk to Funk event

The popular Junk to Funk fundraising fashion parade is just around the corner and time is running out to get tickets.

The annual event is being held on Saturday, August 4 at the Westland Hotel.

Junk to Funk is the major fundraising event for the Whyalla Special Education Centre (WSEC).  This year the funds will go toward purchasing specialised outdoor equipment to enhance the outdoor learning experiences for the students of the school.

“The purpose for the new equipment has been to ensure that all students have access to a range of equipment providing a range of sensory regulating experiences to support physical health, social engagement and emotional regulation to enhance student wellbeing and focus for learning,” Principal of the WSEC Cath Wood said.

The ongoing support from the Whyalla community has ensured the event has been successful since its inception in 2010 with the City of Whyalla a proud major sponsor.

Junk to Funk involves teams entering their wonderful garments fashioned from recycled and repurposed material that are usually discarded. This year sees material such as paper, soccer balls, organic material, hi viz, bottle tops and water cask bladders being used.

On the night the garments are paraded and the creators are given the opportunity to talk about the creation and their inspiration for the outfit.

The garments are judged on the amount of recycled materials used, the creativeness and the construction as well as the fashion appeal on the night, with the Marilyn Abbott Peoples’ Choice Award winner going to the team with the highest amount of donations at interval.

Tickets are available, until midnight on Sunday July 29. Seating is at tables of 10 with individual tickets available by visiting the Junk to funk facebook page or https://2018junktofunk.eventbrite.com.au
