Footpath access may be restricted over the next few weeks outside the Samaritan College Saint Teresa's Campus on Darling Terrace in Whyalla.
Work has commenced on-site to remove the boundary wall and a row of pine trees at the front of the primary school.
The brick wall has been deemed unsafe and the trees, a common form of pine, have grown too big, are causing problems with their root systems and are also posing a safety risk.
The removal work is also necessary to accommodate a new building including four classrooms, music/drama room, lobby, break out area, toilets and associated landscaping at the school. The new classroom block will replace five existing classrooms with new landscaping and fencereplacing the pine trees and wall.
Samaritan College secured development plan consent through the City of Whyalla for the new classrooms in November 2017 and have been working with the Council regarding the removal of the wall and trees.
Depending on weather conditions, this work could result in footpath restrictions for the next two weeks.
