Residents will pay half the regular fee at the Mount Laura Waste and Resource Recovery Centre on Sunday with free green waste dumping

The City of Whyalla is offering a half-price dump and free green waste day to help celebrate Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday, March 4.

Whyalla residents will be able to take general waste to the Mount Laura Waste and Resource Recovery Centre and pay half the regular fee on Sunday while dumping of clean green waste at the centre will be free on the day.

dumpCouncil is offering this service in the spirit of Clean Up Australia Day and those participating in the clean-up day event at Civic Park won’t miss out either. In fact, those participating in clean-up day will receive a ‘free’ voucher to the dump for their household to be used at a later date.

Make sure to come along and register at Civic Park between 10am – 1pm on Sunday, grab your bags and get cleaning up.  Free dumping vouchers will be handed out once you return with your rubbish and you will also be rewarded with a free drink and barbecue for your efforts.

The half-price fees at the waste centre on March 4 won’t even cover the EPA levy Council is charged for waste but it is something we feel strongly about … helping residents and keeping Whyalla clean and tidy.

“We are fully committed to Clean Up Australia Day and we generally get a fantastic turnout to the Whyalla event to help keep the city clean,” Council CEO Chris Cowley said.

“Along with sponsoring the clean-up event, the half-price dump and free green waste day is another way for Council to look after Whyalla residents and gives everyone a chance to have a look around their own property and get rid of some rubbish cheaply.

“It isn’t cheap for Council to run the landfill site but we want to give something back to the community while also ensuring Whyalla stays clean and tidy and the environment is looked after.”

The half-price dump and free green waste day runs from 10am to 4pm and is restricted to residential waste only (no commercial) and does not include asbestos and hazardous waste.

The size limit has been set at a 8x5 trailer for waste and green waste but residents are welcome to make several trips to the dump on the day between the open hours.
