Don't block the path or driveways

You can cop a substantial fine if you don't consider others when you park

If you park your vehicle so it blocks a footpath you could be stung with a $75 fine and if it is the police that issue the fine, you’ll cop another $60 whack with a Victims of Crime Levy.

parkingIt’s a section of the Australia Road Rules (Part 12, Division 6, Paragraph 198) that deals with obstructing footpaths and driveways.

It’s a similar fine if you park your vehicle so it blocks someone’s driveway. If you do that, you’ll not only annoy the hell out of the owner of the driveway but you’ll also pay $77 and another 60 bucks if it’s the police that hand out the fine.

There is, however, no set distance you must leave between your car and the footpath or a driveway. If you’re not parked in a way that blocks the footpath or driveway, under the road rules you are okay.

So, it’s pretty easy … don’t block the footpath or anyone’s driveway with your car or any other vehicle.

Imagine how annoying that would be for people who have to go around your car or can’t get out of their own driveway.

Here’s the official ruling: A driver must not stop on a road in a position that obstructs access by vehicles or pedestrians to or from a footpath ramp, or a similar way of access to a footpath. A driver also must not stop on or across a driveway or other way of access for vehicles travelling to or from adjacent land. (Australian Road Rules, Part 12, Division 6, Paragraph 198).
