FRIDAY JULY 27

From 9am to 11:30am we met with the Qingdao International Chamber of Commerce. This meeting demonstrated to us that there is a genuine appetite to invest in South Australia.

We had the opportunity to showcase Whyalla and talk about the investment options that we are looking to pursue.

The companies we met with have interests in the following areas:

* Water treatment

* Aged care

* Plastics recycling

* Insurance

* Seaweed fertiliser

* Health and well being

The  Qingdao International Chamber of Commerce represents more than 5000 businesses. We are going to make a connection between this organisation and the Whyalla Chamber of Commerce.

After a quick bite to eat we had an opportunity view an exhibition of how the land use planning system works in Qingdao.

Also we visited a very significant marine technology and historical centre which showed that the Chinese government is investing significantly into understanding how the marine environment can be harnessed to assist liveability in the future.

We then had a very quick tour of two further companies:

* The first company develops and builds equipment that generates power through harnessing sea wave action.

* The second company develops and builds under water cameras and unmanned submarines.

This concluded our business trip and we headed back to the hotel at 5pm for a light dinner and our first early night before packing for the trip back home.

Council CEO Chris Cowley, Director of City Growth Kristina Roberts and Tourism and Economic Development Manger Elisa Bu are in China to pursue more business opportunities, industries and jobs for the City of Whyalla.
