It was a 7.50am start with an hour’s drive to meet staff at a major university science park.

This significant complex houses a major diversified services business with 70,000 employees based on this site.

"This company has a $10 billion fund to facilitate investment opportunities across the globe"

We met with the company’s general manager and six of his department heads and discussed many opportunities that may fit in with Whyalla and South Australia.

Some of the subjects and industry opportunities covered included:

  1. Recycling technology
  2. Water treatment
  3. Desalination
  4. Solar power energy storage (compressed air)
  5. Hydrogen production (fits with the state's hydrogen road map)
  6. Business start-up incubator programs
  7. University linkages
  8. Green technology.

This company has a $10 billion fund to facilitate investment opportunities across the globe. We have now established key contacts with which we will progress investigations into specific projects.

The meeting finished at 1:30pm. We arrived back at the hotel at 2:30pm and all three of us took the time to take care of various Council matters back in Whyalla.

It was an early night as Day 4 will involve a 6am start to take a bullet train for a seven-hour trip to Qingdao.

Council CEO Chris Cowley, Director of City Growth Kristina Roberts and Tourism and Economic Development Manger Elisa Bu are in China to pursue more business opportunities, industries and jobs for the City of Whyalla.
