City of Whyalla staff have rallied to help South Australian farmers feeling the pinch with our dry conditions.
After a discussion amongst her colleagues in the Records Department, records management officer Kerry-Lee McWhinney kicked off an appeal this month at the Council offices in Darling Terrace to raise money for farmers affected by the drought-like conditions in some parts of the state.
Putting together a casual day, morning tea and selling bottles of water to Council staff, the appeal raised more than $500 in a matter of days with staff from other Council operations like the library also contributing.
“This a fantastic effort and thank you to Kerry-Lee and all the staff that contributed,” Council CEO Chris Cowley said.
The money will go to the Buy a Bale charity which allows people to select where their bales of hay will go. The money raised by Council staff will send 12 bales of hay and 11,500 litres of water to South Australian farmers with nine litres of diesel to help get them there.
“Everyone who contributed to the fundraiser did an amazing job,” Kerry-Lee said.
“We donated the funds to Buy a Bale, that way we could select South Australia to contribute the money towards.”
