rubbish

Win for the environment

Acting on a tip-off from a resident, the City of Whyalla swung into action and got a big pile of rubbish cleaned up on the outskirts of our city.

It wasn’t council land or responsibility but we couldn’t stand by and watch this rubbish spread through the bush.

It was a big thanks to the resident who notified us and the contractors who went out to clean it up.

Here’s what you said:

Megan: Well done Whyalla City Council for keeping our neighborhood clean, hope you fine the culprits responsible!

Maureen: Thanks council for cleaning up out of your zone how about in future community service people could be utilized to clean up these matters.

2018 Whyalla Australia Day Awards

It was a popular choice as Karen Harrison took out the 2018 Whyalla Citizen of the Year at the Australia Day Awards ceremony held at the Mount Laura Homestead.

There were plenty more deserving winners honoured on the night with acknowledgement also given at the Australia Day Celebrations in Ada Ryan Gardens.

Whyalla Mayor Lyn Breuer praised the winners and said it was no surprise so many wonderful people were being recognised.

Here’s what you said:

Judith: Congratulations Karen Harrison and all others receiving recognition for amazing contributions to our community.

Phillip: Congratulations to all winners. Some very worthy and dedicated members of the community recognised for so much work they do to make us very proud of their endeavours and achievements for our community.

Australia Day Celebrations

What a way to finish the week and go into the long weekend.

It looked a bit dodgy when the predicted scorching temperature didn’t arrive and instead it started raining quite heavily in the afternoon after the Whyalla Harriers Beyond Bank Fun Run completed.

The rain, thankfully, stopped just before the 4pm start to the celebrations in Ada Ryan Gardens and they were enjoyed by all with the great finale of fireworks.

Here’s what you said:

Helma: Great Day, enjoyed the event, especially held in the gardens, it created a more festive vibe with people gathered closer together. Hope it will be held there again.

Nigel: Great setting. Thank you to the Whyalla City Council for putting this event on.

Megan: Thanks to the council for putting this on for the community. I know my daughter had a blast

Jason: Great show guys, great end to a great day, Thank you.

Jennifer: Congratulations on an awesome display!
