Whyalla's new jetty design is creating excitement in Whyalla and around the State.

Whyalla is the envy of South Australia with its new innovative jetty design.

The design that features a 145m circle towards the end of the 145m long structure has generated huge interest throughout the State after articles appeared in The Advertiser and on its Facebook page. There’s also been plenty of excitement in Whyalla on social media after the story was run in the local media and on the City of Whyalla website and Facebook page.

The story on The Advertiser Facebook page has so far drawn 1100 likes, 297 comments (with most being positive) and was shared 166 times. The Council’s Facebook posting on the new jetty design story has so far reached 12,882 people, had 245 likes, 86 comments (most of them again positive) and 122 shares.

jettyWhyalla Mayor Lyn Breuer said this response from the state-wide media exposure and the local coverage showed Whyalla was on a winner with the new design.

“That’s a lot of people in Adelaide that have seen our new design and like it,” Mayor Breuer said

“Construction will start soon but we’re already seeing a huge amount of interest and that means positive publicity for our city and, by the looks of it, a lot more people now planning trips to Whyalla to see and use this great new jetty.

“This is not only a positive for our city’s economy, it is a reflection on the exciting times ahead for Whyalla and people around the state and country are starting to realise this.”

"You guys are next level" - Molly

While there were many positive comments on the new jetty on The Advertiser Facebook site, there were also many other seaside residents throughout South Australia that looked on in envy and want their beach to have a similar design.

Zoe commented that “one at Grange would be great” while Daniel said “This is the sort of thing Glenelg needs” and Gioia added “This is what they should do at Henley Beach”. Others words used by readers included cool, brilliant, rad, unreal and awesome while many flagged “road trips” to Whyalla to go fishing.

"Looks like Whyalla is gettin a lil fancy!" - Jai

“This is going to put Whyalla on the map,” said Advertiser reader Leigh while Charlie said “We’ll have to go check this out” and Jaime said “Weekend road trip, here we come”. A reader called Chook said “Absolutely brilliant, well done, we need more of these” while Molly praised Whyalla saying “You guys are next level” and Mick reckons it will be a “killa fishing deck”.

“While this jetty is going to great for locals, from the initial comments it appears it is also going to be a drawcard and fantastic advert for the city,” Mayor Breuer said.

“That’s great for our economy, great for jobs and continues the positive vibe we are building in our city.

“Congratulations to the community of Whyalla for having the foresight to vote this as the favourite design … you’ve done your part in putting our city on the map for all the right reasons.”
