City of Whyalla residents have the opportunity to see the results of an innovative university project conducted in the city.
The Urban Ecosystem Design Lab, in collaboration with the City of Whyalla, has issued an open invitation to the final presentations of the urban regeneration proposals developed by Masters Students of the School of Architecture and Built Environment of the University of Adelaide.
The event concludes a fortnight’s intensive urban design project in Whyalla coordinated by Dr Elisa Palazzo from the university. The Thursday morning (November 23) presentation in the council chambers on the projects will cover six different areas of Whyalla.
It will start from 9.30am and may take about an hour, followed by opportunity to use audio visual headsets of the project work.
The project provides a full immersion experience in the Whyalla community to form an urban regeneration proposal through an accurate understanding of the local spatial and cultural context. The project is aimed at taking advantage of the apparent isolation of the town of Whyalla as an opportunity to recreate a socio/ecological/economic urban system able to sustain itself in a viable and environmentally friendly manner.
The presentation promises to be interesting and certainly rewarding for the students and those in the Whyalla community who wish to see the results.
