Sandbag project due to begin at Whyalla Foreshore
Whyalla City Council will soon begin its foreshore sandbagging project.
The project will begin on Monday, May 8 and involves filling 300 large sandbags and stacking them two bags high along the foreshore seawall.
Sandbags will be stacked starting from the Beach Café west to the bottom end of Roberts Terrace.
Once the sandbags are in place, they will be covered with sand to help protect the bags as well as to create a new frontal dune.
The purpose of sandbagging this area is to help stop the erosion of sand from the base of this section of the foreshore seawall.
The sand will be locked up in the sandbags, minimising any chance of erosion and improving public safety along this section of boardwalk.
The council is asking members of the public to avoid the project area where contractors are working to allow them to complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible.
Work is expected to be completed within three weeks of commencement of the project.
