Work has commenced to remove mulch potentially contaminated with asbestos from all identified sites as a matter of priority. Council is engaging the services of a licenced specialist to remove the potentially contaminated material.
The mulch will be removed from all identified private sites and the following public locations:
- Ada Ryan Gardens
- Road reserve adjacent to the Alexander Motor Inn
- Cartledge Avenue roundabout
- Road reserve adjacent to Foreshore toilet block
It was initially believed that no public sites had been impacted by the mulch in question; however, following extensive investigations to ensure public safety it was found that the above sites had received potentially contaminated mulch from the identified stockpile. Immediate action has been taken to fence all identified public locations to restrict public access prior to removal and remediation of these sites.
Following removal and remediation of all identified sites, clean mulch will be reinstated at these locations.
