Cadets from the Royal Military College - Duntroon will take part in this year's Remembrance Service in Whyalla.

There will be a partial road closure on Saturday for Whyalla’s 2017 Remembrance Day Ceremony.

With cadets from the Royal Military College – Duntroon (RMC-D) conducting a military exercise in Whyalla from Tuesday, November 7 to Thursday November 23, this year’s Whyalla ceremony will be bolstered by these visiting army personnel.

In conjunction with the Whyalla RSL, the RMC-D cadets will take part and attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11 at Memorial Oval.

Due to the subsequent larger than expected crowd, the corner of Bradford and Wileman streets, adjacent to the Memorial Cenotaph, will be partially closed to traffic throughout the event from 9am to 12 noon. See map below.

Access to nearby properties will be maintained at all times through appropriate traffic control and a temporary 25kmh speed limit.

To ensure this event and subsequent road closure progress smoothly parked vehicles cannot be permitted in the immediate traffic control area and a temporary parking restriction will be in place.  Please ensure that any vehicles from your property or visiting your property are parked off-street between the hours of 9am and 12pm.

The RMC-D is responsible for training junior officers for the Australian Army. It also assists in the training and development of Officers in the Air Force and other nations partnered with the Australian Defence Force.

The Whyalla exercise is designed to train personnel in some of the likely tasks involved with stabilising operations in preparation for their graduation in December 17. The trainees will conduct tasks that would be expected whilst on peace keeping operations such as East Timor and the Solomon Islands. This is primarily based on providing protection and supporting the local government to reassume control and responsibility for the local area.

In order to achieve realistic training RMC-D will be conducting activities in conjunction with the council and local emergency services and will be seeking to also integrate local businesses, schools and members of the community.

If any organisation would like to get involved or if you have any questions regarding the exercise and what it will involve it can contact the Operations Officer 1st Class, Captain James Roberts on either 0429 390 137 or email him on james.roberts9@defence.gov.au.
