Airport security 2017

In light of an alleged terror plot at a Sydney airport, the Whyalla Airport has received numerous calls regarding security and check-in times for passengers boarding flights at the Whyalla terminal.

Whyalla Airport is a Category 6 rural airport operated by the Whyalla Council and, as advised by the Office of Transport and Security (OTS), is not required to make any changes to security regimes.

The OTS is Australia’s transport security regulator. Its role is to make sure Australians and their national interests are secure through regulation.

Travellers flying out of Whyalla are advised to stick to normal check-in times and always double check with their carrier.

If the security threat changes, all airports will be notified as necessary.

Travellers at major airports in Australia faced major delays on Monday after security measures were increased following the alleged terror plot in Sydney.

Media outlets reported delays of up to 90 minutes for passengers or visitors passing through security at Adelaide and Sydney airports.

The Federal Transport Minister Darren Chester has been reported as saying additional security measures had been put in place at all major Australian airports in coordination with counter terrorism raids in Sydney over the weekend.
