The revolution in women’s sport continues to roll on and will be the focus of a special forum in Whyalla next week.
We’ve seen the Adelaide Crows women’s side taking all before it by claiming the inaugural AFLW premiership, the Matildas strutting their stuff on the world soccer stage and our national women’s cricket side currently locked in battle with the English in a fascinating Ashes series.
This recognition and growing coverage of women’s sport is flowing fast down to the grass roots with more and more women and girls stepping up and taking up their sport of choice. There is, however, still work to do to make sport all inclusive.
With this aim in mind, the Minister for Disabilities and the Minister Assisting the Minister for Recreation and Sport, Katrine Hildyard MP (pictured) will be in Whyalla to host a Women in Sport Forum on Tuesday, November 22.
City of Whyalla STARCLUB Field Officer Alberto Salatino is helping co-ordinate the visit and said it will be an invaluable opportunity for those involved in, or interested in being involved in, women’s sport in Whyalla
“The Minister is Chair of the South Australian Women in Sport Taskforce and is keen to talk with community members about the work of the Taskforce, how clubs can get behind it and how we can best actively and equally include girls and women in all aspects of sport,” Mr Salatino said.
“There is growing momentum around women’s sport and women in sport and an important time to have these discussions.”
The forum will be held at Central Whyalla Football Club from 6pm to 8pm and a light supper will be provided.
There will be an opportunity to share experiences as well as a question and answer session at the end of the forum.
