Fifteen vehicles to set off for Queen of the Desert
Fifteen vehicles will travel in convoy through the great South Australian outback when Queen of the Desert kicks off over the Easter long weekend.
Hitting the road over the Easter Long Weekend, Queen of the Desert 4wd Festival explores the Oodnadatta Track at a leisurely pace, leaving from Whyalla with overnight stops at Coober Pedy, Arckaringa Station, William Creek, and finishing up in Marree, with plenty of interesting stops, photo opportunities, and family fun along the way.
Entries for Queen of the Desert closed last week in a flurry of last minute registrations.
Participants will experience the best of the South Australian outback, with plenty of stops planned at unique locations, such as the Algebuckina Bridge, the Pink Roadhouse in Oodnadatta, Coward Springs, Lake Eyre, and the incredible landscape of the South Australian desert.
Whyalla mayor Lyn Breuer said she was confident participants would enjoy their journey through the outback.
“There is a lot to see in the outback, and the desert landscape is just beautiful,” Ms Breuer said.
“Queen of the Desert is an exciting new addition to Whyalla City Council’s portfolio of events, and I look forward to hearing tales from the road from everyone that participates.”
Participants are encouraged to get into the spirit of the event by dressing their vehicles in a theme related to an Australian film.
Members of the public are invited to give the convoy a hearty send off, with an opportunity to meet with participants, discuss their vehicle design and dressings, and wave them off on Friday, April 15 from 10am at Rotary Park.
