Feedback sought on development of Bennett Oval masterplan
The City of Whyalla is seeking community input into the development of a masterplan for Bennett Oval.
The council received $21,000 through the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program to undertake a feasibility study for further development at Bennett Oval.
The funding will allow the council to undertake a review of sport and spectator facilities at Bennett Oval to develop a comprehensive facilities and infrastructure masterplan for the site.
Bennett Oval has long been a well utilized community sporting precinct in Whyalla, and the council is now seeking to further enhance the area to ensure Bennett Oval continues to offer to serve as a valuable community facility.
In conjunction with the Whyalla Football League and Whyalla Cricket Association the council is developing a masterplan for Bennett Oval to meet the needs of current and future sport and recreation.
STARCLUB Field Officer Alberto Salatino said the council recognised the importance and role Bennett Oval had in the sporting, recreational and cultural identity of the community.
“The council recognises the area as a key destination with an opportunity to be reconfigured to offer even greater opportunities for the community and sporting groups,” Mr Salatino said.
The council is seeking feedback from local community organisations and individuals that may have an interest in using the area.
“We want to further develop the Bennett Oval area to ensure as many sporting and recreational groups are getting good use out of it as possible,” Mr Salatino said.
“The development of a masterplan for the area will allow for the facility to be developed and enhanced to better service the community, and provide more opportunities to the local organisations that are using it.”
The council is asking community members and organisations to complete a survey to provide feedback on what they would like to see at Bennett Oval.
Community groups wishing to complete the survey as part of their organisation should complete an online survey, available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QCW7ZTT
Community members wishing to complete the survey as an individual should complete an online survey, available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QCNQJWP
Hard copies of both surveys are available at Whyalla City Council’s civic building on Darling Terrace and Whyalla Public Library.
All surveys must be completed and submitted by 5pm on Friday, March 24.
