Civic Park to come alive with Magic in the Park
Civic Park will come alive on Saturday, February 11 when Magic in the Park makes its debut as part of the 2016/17 Summer Market series.
Magic in the Park will kick off from 5pm at Civic Park, with entertainment, activities and market stalls available for the whole family to enjoy.
On offer will be a large range of boutique market stalls, face-painting, giveaways, and fun activities and games for the kids in the Kids’ Corner.
To further enhance the magic, adults and children alike are being encouraged to dress as their favourite childhood character.
From old favourites Snow White, Jiminy Cricket, Minnie Mouse or Winnie the Pooh to more recent characters, Elsa, Tarzan, Belle or Woody, the options are endless!
Four hours of jam-packed entertainment, activities and stalls will be complimented with the screening of a Disney classic at sundown.
Whyalla City Council asked members of the public via the council’s Facebook page what their favourite Disney film was, with an overwhelming response being received for one particular family favourite.
The Lion King will be projected onto the big screen at Civic Park from sundown, and residents are encouraged to bring their chairs, blankets, or bean bags down to Civic Park to watch the film in comfort on the lawn.
Whyalla mayor Lyn Breuer said she was excited that the council was able to provide a family friendly night out that would cater to residents of all ages.
“The February Summer Market is set to be a wonderful night out for the whole family,” Ms Breuer said.
“I hope as many children, their families, and even those big kids at heart come out to Civic Park to settle in for a screening of one of my personal Disney favourites, the Lion King.
“The council is proud to be providing a low-cost event to the whole community, and we hope to see a large crowd enjoying the enchantment of Magic in the Park.”
Boutique items available from the local market stalls include homemade candles, children’s clothes, gifts and toys, jewellery, doll’s clothes, blankets and homewares, lollies, and much more.
A delicious array of food and drinks will be on offer on the day, with steak sandwiches, gourmet hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, milkshakes, and delicious homemade treats.
Market stalls will finish at 8pm, with the film set to screen from about 8.30pm, or after sundown.
