Pop your bot on the SOWL and check out what wonderful Whyalla has to offer.
The Whyalla Visitor Information Service now has the Seat Of Whyalla Learning (SOWL) after a City of Whyalla works crew showed some creativity and initiative when dealing with a dead tree at the Lincoln Highway facility.
The tree, positioned strategically next to the information board at the visitor centre, had died and presented a potential hazard for those checking out Whyalla’s attractions. Instead of razing it to the ground, the clever crew cut it down carefully to create a unique seat.
There’s already been a few visitors take the opportunity to have a seat, check out the brochures they’ve got from the visitor information centre and then plan their adventure in Whyalla.
A few of these photos have already been posted on social media as people chart their holidays and put Whyalla on the map.
Whyalla visitors and locals are encouraged to take a seat and take a picture of themselves to add to the one on our Facebook site.
You can then say you’ve seen the true SOWL of Whyalla.
Locals and visitors have another reason to go out to the visitor centre this school holidays with FREE admission to the museum and ship tours for children attending as a family group.
In conjunction with the FREE admission offer, the Whyalla Maritime Museum is running an Aussie Animal Adventure in its gardens where kids can go looking for hidden puzzle pieces.
Join the crew from the museum these school holidays and go in pursuit of the hidden puzzle pieces in the Puzzle Piece Pursuit. Find the 12 Aussie animals guarding a puzzle box and in each puzzle box you will find a unique puzzle piece, which will get you one step closer to completing the final puzzle.
It is not only FREE to take part in the Puzzle Piece Pursuit, during these school holidays it is FREE entry for all children in family groups when they visit the museum and go for a tour of the HMAS Whyalla ship.
Take advantage of the timeless Maritime Museum, a guided tour on board the HMAS Whyalla (the first ship ever built in Whyalla) and the stunning botanic gardens with barbecue/picnic facilities and a newly established Bush Theatre.
The Whyalla Visitor Information Centre also has Steelworks Tours running during the holidays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings (excluding. Public Holidays), which can be followed by a visit to the museum and a ship tour, so why not make a day of it?
