A group of friendly dentists came to the library's pre-school sessions yesterday and they'll be back today.

There's no appointments necessary to see these happy dentists as they visit the library again today for some fun and friendly advice for pre-schoolers.

Yesterday the library had a group of special guests from the South Australian Dental Service pay a visit and join in with some fun and games. They had so much fun they'll be back again today (Thursday, September 14) at 1.30pm for any early arrivals for the regular 2pm Story Time.

The happy dentists joined in the singing, dancing and story telling and had a chat to the children and their families about looking after their teeth.

They had some good advice too like the fact children need to use a special children’s toothpaste, they only need a pea sized amount and after brushing and spitting the toothpaste out, they should not rinse their mouths out as the toothpaste that is left in their mouths continues to make their teeth strong.

Parents also found out that toddlers and pre-schoolers can receive free dental care through the SA dental service and through some private dentists, with a medicare card.

During yesterday's session the children made crafts, the dental students chatted with the children and families and checked the children’s teeth.  The children also received stickers and colouring in sheets from the dental staff.

When the children completed their craft (a big smiley mouth and toothbrush, so they can practice their toothbrushing technique) they all got a laminated toothbrushing chart, so they can make sure they brush their teeth, every day, twice a day.

All pre-schoolers are invited to come down today and get their teeth into a another great Story Time session with these wonderful tooth-caring people.

Pre-School Story Time is a program for 2-5-year-olds to share stories, songs and craft activities at the Public Library on Ekblom Street.

Parents are caregivers are welcome to assist as their child develops a love of books and participates in fun activities in the supportive environment of the library.

Each week there is a different theme for the story and the activity and sometimes special visitors. There is also a toy library at the far end of the children’s library for those that want to stay on a bit longer. There is a wide range of toys, games, musical instruments and kits catering for the early learning, recreational and development needs of pre-school children. You can also borrow two items for two weeks.

The sessions last about 45 minutes and they are held during the school terms on Wednesday and Thursday 10.30am and also 2pm on Thursday. For more information, give the library a call on 8645 7891.
