What does your ideal playground look like?
Whyalla City Council is seeking community input for the development of three new playgrounds across the city.
The council has funding budgeted for this financial year to upgrade the playgrounds at Parfitt Street and Geddes Street.
The council also received a $370,000 grant to undertake major upgrades at Wilson Park.
As part of its preparatory works, the council is seeking feedback from the community about what playground equipment they would like to see installed at the three playgrounds across the city.
The council undertook a similar process in 2015, when it asked the community what equipment it would like installed at Bradford Reserve.
The playground at Bradford Reserve has since been completed, and is being well utilized by the community.
Whyalla City Council acting chief executive officer Migelle Hiscock said the council hoped to include exciting new pieces of equipment at the three different playgrounds currently under review.
“We’re trying to make each playground throughout the city as different as possible to encourage kids to experience all of the playgrounds,” Mrs Hiscock said.
“We want to include equipment that will challenge the children and get them excited about getting outdoors, so we are welcoming any suggestions from the public about what playground equipment they would like to see included installed at any of the parks we are currently working on.”
The council is also asking residents what other elements they would like to be included in the upgrades of the three different parks, such as seating facilities, grassed areas, or a half-court for sporting activities.
In seeking community feedback, the council has developed a survey asking residents about the types of equipment they would like to see installed.
The survey can be completed online at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/WCCplaygrounds or hardcopies are available at the council’s civic building in Darling Terrace and Whyalla Public Library.
Residents can also lodge written submissions outlining their suggestions by addressing submissions to project manager Samuel Bourne at samuel.bourne@whyalla.sa.gov.au or to PO Box 126, Whyalla, SA, 5600.
The public consultation period will close on Friday, September 16.
