Stuart Hockey Club receives STARCLUB status
Stuart Hockey Club has become the first local club to achieve STARCLUB status under the recently revised STARCLUB criteria.
The STARCLUB Development Program is run in partnership between Whyalla City Council and the South Australian Office for Recreation and Sport.
The program has been designed for use by sport and active recreation clubs of all sizes, encouraging them to maintain a well-run club where quality coaches and officials work alongside valued volunteers in a safe and welcoming environment.
Stuart Hockey Club registered with the STARCLUB program in February 2013, and achieved STARCLUB status in February this year, and was presented with its STARCLUB banner at the recent Whyalla hockey grand final.
“We are a very proud club, but like all sporting clubs in this challenging time, were beginning to tread water and just go through the motions of playing one season after another,” Stuart Hockey Club secretary Steve Dunn said.
“We had no vision, no revenue stream and member numbers were getting smaller.
“Three years down the track we have secured a major sponsor that provides many opportunities for fundraising activities, and we now have policies in place and are starting to find that our club is becoming the club of choice for new players.
“Stuart Hockey Club is incredibly proud to have received STARCLUB status, and we are looking forward to continuing to work to improve our club, while reaping the benefits that the STARCLUB Development Program brings.”
STARCLUB Field Officer Alberto Salatino said he was pleased to be working with Stuart Hockey Club through the program.
“It is very exciting to see a local club achieve STARCLUB status under the new criteria,” Mr Salatino said.
“Stuart Hockey Club has demonstrated its effectiveness as a sporting club, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to further improve their policies to the benefit of club members and players.”
