Options proposed to address traffic management issues at Neagle Terrace
Whyalla City Council is seeking community feedback on two options being proposed to address traffic management issues on Neagle Terrace.
Residents in the Neagle Terrace area have raised concerns about traffic management in the area, prompting council staff to investigate possible solutions to the problem.
The council allocated $15,000 in its 2016/17 budget for the installation of CCTV cameras, based on initial research into the cost of the cameras, however quotes for the cameras and their installation are approximately double the budget allocation.
As a result, the council has resolved to explore two options to address the issue of traffic management in Neagle Terrace.
Option one: Install a CCTV camera at a cost of approximately $30,000, with a total cost of $45,000 over a five year timeframe.
Option two: Install removable bollard treatments on the corner of Neagle and Watson terraces at a cost of approximately $4000.
This option would prevent access from Neagle Terrace to Watson Terrace and vice-versa, reducing the flow of traffic and lessening the impact on nearby residents.
Option two also allows the council to retain flexibility and be able to temporarily open the road during foreshore events, improving traffic flows by using a removable bollard model.
In order to determine the preferred way forward, the council is seeking feedback from residents on the two options.
A community survey has been developed, and is available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/NeagleTce , or hard copies are available at the council’s civic building on Darling Terrace or Whyalla Public Library.
In addition to the community survey, the council is collecting road traffic data and seeking police feedback on traffic issues in the Neagle Terrace area to assist in determining appropriate action to take to address traffic management matters in the area.
