Mayor taking leave of absence to recover from illness

Whyalla mayor Jim Pollock will take a leave of absence from his position as mayor while he recovers from an illness.

It was resolved at Whyalla City Council’s January council meeting that Mr Pollock take a three month leave of absence.

Elected deputy mayor Tom Antonio has been deputizing for Mr Pollock since first taking leave in early December, and will continue to act as Whyalla’s mayor until Mr Pollock is able to return to his position.

Mr Antonio said elected members and staff were wishing Mr Pollock a speedy recovery.

“Myself, the staff of Whyalla City Council, and the elected members’ thoughts and prayers are with Jim and we are looking forward to seeing him back at work when he has a full bill of health,” Mr Antonio said.

Mr Antonio, who was elected to serve his second consecutive term as deputy mayor in November last year, said during Mr Pollock’s absence, he encouraged members of the community to approach him with any concerns or issues they would like raised.
