Junior competitors encouraged to drop a line in annual snapper championship
Calling all junior fishing enthusiasts, now is the time to enter this year’s Australian Snapper Championship for your chance to win some incredible prizes.
Junior competitors are being encouraged to enter the 25th Australian Snapper Championship, being held on March 26 and 27, for their chance to take home the Amateur Junior Champion title, proudly sponsored by Wes Jones.
Last year’s junior champion, Sam Marshall, hooked a snapper weighing 8.56 kilograms, which will be tough to beat.
The top two runners up in the junior category will also be awarded some great prizes thanks to Spot On Sportfishing Whyalla in partnership with Shimano.
There will also be two junior encouragement awards decided at random.
Daily prizes will be awarded to both open and junior competitors for a variety of categories.
Organisers are also excited to announce that McDonald’s Whyalla has generously donated a McDonald’s encouragement award for every junior competitor who enters, meaning that junior competitors will receive a McDonald’s voucher regardless of what they catch.
Event organiser Suzy Kettle said this year’s event was shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before, and was looking forward to seeing large numbers of junior competitors reeling in some impressive catches.
“Fishing truly is an art, so I am really excited to see what the younger competitors can bring in,” Miss Kettle said.
“This is a very exciting year for this event, so it would be great to see as many junior competitors vying for the title of 2016 Amateur Junior Champion.”
Early bird discounted entries are open until Friday, February 26, with junior early bird registrations just $10.
Entries can be lodged at the official website, www.australiansnapper.com.au, or entry forms are available at Whyalla City Council’s civic building, Whyalla Public Library, and Whyalla Visitor Information Centre.
