Feedback sought for development of strategic plan

Whyalla City Council is undertaking a review of its strategic plan, and is seeking stakeholder feedback to assist in its development.

The strategic plan is a high level planning document, supported by a number of other plans, which collectively form the Strategic Management Planning framework of the council.

The council opted to undertake a review of the strategic plan as it believed the existing plan did not appropriately cater to the community’s changing needs.

A workshop hosted by SA Centre for Economic Studies’ Professor Michael O'Neill was held in May, with elected members and select council staff contributing to the initial development of the plan.

The council is now seeking feedback from members of the community, as well as key stakeholders, to ensure a comprehensive strategic plan is developed.

Acting mayor Tom Antonio said the development of a new strategic plan came at a pivotal time for Whyalla.

“Whyalla is going through a period of change and facing challenging times, so we as a council believe now is the perfect time to review the existing strategic plan so that we can take a strategic approach to moving forward as a city,” Mr Antonio said.

“The strategic plan focuses on improving the city’s economic prosperity, the local environment, the community’s social wellbeing and providing sound financial and asset management.

“All of these things impact directly on our residents, and we as a council want to hear from you about the important factors that make up the strategic plan so we can ensure we are effectively moving towards addressing the issues that matter most.”

Mr Antonio said the strategic plan would play a crucial part in ensuring a strong future for the city of Whyalla.

“With the right strategic plan and the right commitment from all levels of government, and the positive feedback we are receiving from KordaMentha, we will come out the other side of this a stronger city and community,” Mr Antonio said.

“With recent positive announcements coming out from all levels of government, and the administrators, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and the council is looking forward to creating a sustainable strategic plan to benefit the entire city.”

The community is being asked to assist in the development of the plan by completing a survey.

The survey is available both electronically at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VWCRMXQ, and hard copies are available at the council’s civic building and Whyalla Public Library.

Residents are asked to complete the survey by close of business Friday, July 22.
