Council encouraging local groups and businesses to take up funding opportunities
Whyalla City Council is encouraging local groups and businesses to apply for grant funding currently being offered by two government bodies.
The opportunity to apply for grant funding is currently being offered by the Upper Spencer Gulf and Outback Futures Program and the National Stronger Regions Fund (NSRF).
Acting mayor Tom Antonio said the council was strongly encouraging local businesses and not-for-profit organisations to take advantage of these opportunities.
“Whyalla and its surrounding region is suffering from a poor economic climate, with many people in our community losing their jobs,” Mr Antonio said.
“These grants provide the perfect opportunity to give our region a much-needed boost.
“There is an opportunity here for people who have lost their job to apply for funding as a start-up business, as any business activity within Whyalla provides a positive boost to the city through employment, expenditure, and economic prosperity.
“I strongly encourage anyone who has been thinking of doing something different to apply for the funding currently being offered, because it has the potential to positively impact the whole community.”
About the grants
Upper Spencer Gulf and Outback Futures Program
Grant funding through the Upper Spencer Gulf and Outback Futures Program is available between $50,000 and $20,000 for small projects in the eligible area.
The downturn in the resources sector has resulted in job loss announcements throughout the Upper Spencer Gulf and outback area, impacting on regional centres through a decline in demand for resource sector support services.
The government is seeking to support the region to achieve economic recovery by offering assistance to projects that will contribute to the economic diversification, resilience and capacity building of these communities.
Applications for the Upper Spencer Gulf and Outback Futures Program close at 5pm on Friday, February 26, and must be submitted using the online application form.
