Community invited to ring in the New Year with exciting community event

2017 will be rung in in style this year, following Whyalla City Council’s decision to offer a community event on New Year’s Eve.

For many years, members of the community have indicated their desire for a community event to be held to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

At its August meeting, the council endorsed a proposal from council staff to offer a display of the renowned Sydney fireworks in an open air cinema style setting.

The event will be complimented by amusement rides and sideshows, making the New Year’s Eve celebration an engaging and community focused event.

Whyalla mayor Lyn Breuer said the council was looking forward to offering a family-friendly event for the community to enjoy on New Year’s Eve.

“We all like to celebrate the New Year with something fun and memorable, and the council is pleased that this year we can invite the whole community down to the foreshore to ring in the New Year together,” Ms Breuer said.

“This will be a family-friendly community event aimed at bringing the community together for an enjoyable evening.

“The opportunity to live stream the renowned Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks display in an open air cinema setting is incredibly exciting, and will undoubtedly create a wonderful atmosphere to ring in the 2017 in Whyalla.”

Further details of the event will be announced later in the year.

The possession or consumption of alcohol at the event will be strictly prohibited, as all foreshore areas and beach fronts across Australia are deemed dry zones on New Year’s Eve.
