Collaboration encourages tourism activity

Whyalla will soon be promoted to a broader market when a number of its renowned icons are featured on the back of six semi-trailer trucks used to travel around the state.

Whyalla City Council, in conjunction with Scholz Transport and Signarama, has worked to have quality images featuring some of Whyalla’s iconic drawcards featured on the back Scholz Transport’s trucks.

Scholz Transport’s trucks travel to most of South Australia, and the images of Whyalla’s impressive icons are likely to be seen by large numbers of people, including tourists travelling around the state.

Whyalla City Council Tourism Development Manager Liz McNeill said she was confident this project would provide significant promotional benefits for Whyalla.

“These trucks travel great distances across the state, and are likely to be seen by many people travelling behind them on the roads,” Mrs McNeill said.

“Imagine sitting behind a truck while travelling from Adelaide and seeing a thought provoking shot of a place you’ve never thought about visiting, living, or doing business, and thinking ‘I’d like to go there’, that is our intention with this project.”

Images to be featured on the trucks will include high quality photographs of dolphins, kiteboarding, Point Lowly, and families enjoying Whyalla’s Foreshore.

“Whyalla City Council extends a big ‘thank you’ to Scholz Transport for agreeing to feature the images on their trucks, free of charge, and to Signarama for designing and printing the signs to be displayed on the trucks,” Mrs McNeill said.

“It is businesses such as Scholz Transport and Signarama that are so willing to work with the council for the betterment of the city that will allow us to make a difference in the future.”

The first image made its debut on the back of its truck on Wednesday last week, with more images to be installed and displayed on the trucks by the end of January.

The first truck’s image shared on the Whyalla Visitor Centre Facebook page reached more than 6000 people with very positive comments about the initiative.

Whyalla tourism encourages the community to like and share the page and also post their own images of Whyalla with the hashtag #lovewhyalla
