Celebrating 25 years of the Snapper Championship
Twenty-five years is no small feat, and to celebrate the Australian Snapper Championship’s 25th anniversary, Whyalla City Council will host a mayoral welcome for all competitors, enthusiasts, and interested guests.
The mayoral welcome will be held on Thursday, March 24, with a special buffet dinner at Whyalla Sportfishing Club, across the road from the Snapper HQ marquee at the marina.
Competitors in the championship are invited to head down to the Sportfishing Club to hear the official event briefing from 6pm until 7pm, collect their competitor pack and free gift bags, before attending the mayoral dinner.
In honour of the 25th anniversary event, every competitor is invited to attend and share a free meal and drink with fellow competitors and event sponsors at the Sportfishing Club.
Delicious seafood platters will be on offer by Head Catering, as well as mouth-watering charcoal chicken, pig on the spit, and hearty vegetables provided by Whyalla Sportfishing Club.
Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, a variety of food vouchers will be given away at random during the opening briefing between 6pm and 7pm.
Acting mayor Tom Antonio said he was looking forward to kicking the special 25th anniversary event off in style, with the opening dinner set to provide a great start to the weekend.
“Twenty-five years is a major achievement, and we wanted to celebrate this achievement with all of our competitors, and thank them for their involvement which allows this wonderful event to run every year,” Mr Antonio said.
“I am looking forward to clinking glasses with competitors at the mayoral welcome, before wishing them well on the water for the rest of the competition.”
A registration table will also be set up at the Sportfishing Club on the evening, allowing late comers the opportunity to enter the event at the last minute.
Early bird entries close on Friday, February 26, with entries into the competition open right up until the end of the event on Thursday night.
Entry forms are available at the event’s official website, www.australiansnapper.com.au, and also at Whyalla City Council’s civic building, Whyalla Public Library, and Whyalla Visitor Information Centre.
