Australia Day festivities kicking off early

The Beyond Bank Australia Day Fun Run is on again this year, and to complement the early morning event, a breakfast barbecue by Relay for Life team To the Moon and Back will be kicking off from 9.30am.

Residents are invited to head down to the Ada Ryan Gardens from 9.30am on Australia Day to enjoy a barbecue breakfast cooked by Relay for Life team To the Moon and Back.

A number of Whyalla City Council’s elected members will also be on hand on the day, with the breakfast event doubling as an opportunity for residents to raise any issues they may have with their elected members and get to know the decision makers of the city.

Acting mayor Tom Antonio said elected members enjoyed attending community events to speak to residents, and hoped residents would take this opportunity to attend the breakfast barbecue and support a local event.

“Community events are a wonderful way for us, as the elected decision makers of the city, to meet our local residents and hear the concerns of community members, so that we can assist in addressing any issues they might have,” Cr Antonio said.

“I strongly hope that residents will take this opportunity to come and speak to us, provide feedback on the projects the council is currently working on or provide suggestions for future projects, and enjoy a nice day out for Australia Day.

“This is also a wonderful opportunity for residents to enjoy the beauty of the Ada Ryan Gardens, which is simply magnificent in the mornings.”

Keen athletes interested in taking on the five kilometre fun run can enter on the day at the registration table in the Ada Ryan Gardens from 7.45am or register at the Whyalla Harriers table in Westland Shopping Centre on Saturday, January 23 from 9am until 12pm or at the January summer markets on Saturday, January 16 from 5pm at Whyalla Foreshore.

The annual fun run is a fundraising event, raising money for S.I.D.S for Kids, and is organsied and run by Whyalla Harriers.

Trophies will be presented for the first open male and female, first under 16 male and female, first under 13 male and female, first walker, with an InterSport voucher being presented as part of the random draw prize.
