Anglers to snag exciting prizes at this year’s snapper championship
Anglers dropping a line in the 25th Australian Snapper Championship will be vying for some very exciting prizes.
The lucky competitor who lands the heaviest snapper will be crowned the 2016 Champion Angler and receive the championship trophy, and of course, bragging rights.
The champion is also awarded more than $1000 worth of fishing gear, thanks to the great team at Spot On Sport Fishing Whyalla in partnership with Shimano.
The champion will also receive an airline voucher for use on any Qantas or QantasLink flight worldwide, thanks to QantasLink, so if you’ve ever wanted to drop a line in overseas waters, this could be your opportunity.
The top 10 leader board is back again this year, with thousands of dollars’ worth of fishing gear up for grabs.
The female competitor who catches the heaviest snapper will be awarded the Bob Buckton Memorial Award, in honour of long-time supporter and local fisherman Bob Buckton.
Junior competitors aged 16 and under will be competing for the Amateur Junior Champion title, with the junior who hooks the heaviest snapper taking home an awesome prize pack proudly sponsored by local fishing guru Wes Jones.
If you’re looking for an opportunity to win some extra prizes throughout the event, you can enter the team category.
Buckets full of prizes will be awarded daily for a variety of categories and species, many awarded at random, so it’s not just about who can hook the biggest snapper.
There is also thousands of dollars’ worth of camping gear up for grabs thanks to Harry’s Camping and Caravan Supplies.
Additional giveaways will be awarded at random during the opening night briefing on Thursday, March 24 between 6pm and 7pm, so make sure you head down to be in the running.
Event coordinator Suzy Kettle said the prizes up for grabs at this year’s championship were very impressive.
“Our generous sponsors have really dug deep to provide us with some incredible prizes,” Miss Kettle said.
“It’s not all about who snags the biggest fish; we have plenty of exciting prizes up for grabs for the different categories, some of which are random prizes – you have to be in it to win it.”
Early bird entries close on Friday, February 26, and can be lodged at the website, www.australiansnapper.com.au or registration forms are available at the Whyalla City Council’s civic building, Whyalla Public Library, and Whyalla Visitor Information Centre.
