Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2025–2029
Whyalla City Council is committed to creating a community where everyone can participate, contribute and belong. The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2025–2029 outlines council's commitment to improving accessibility, inclusion and participation for people living with disability across all aspects of community life.
Under the Disability Inclusion Act 2018 (SA), all State authorities, including local governments, are required to develop and implement a DAIP. This DAIP provides a framework for council to identify and deliver practical actions that reduce barriers and create more inclusive opportunities for residents and visitors with disability.
The Whyalla City Council DAIP aligns with the priorities and outcomes of Inclusive SA – South Australia's State Disability Inclusion Plan; and has been developed in accordance with the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan Guidelines.
The plan focuses on five key priority areas:
- Inclusive Communities and Environments
- Education and Employment
- Personal and Community Support
- Health and Wellbeing
- Safety, Rights and Justice
You can view council's current draft DAIP here.
The draft DAIP has been informed by research, community data, and consultation with people with lived experience of disability, carers, support providers, community organisations and council staff. It reflects both the opportunities and challenges of building a more accessible and inclusive regional community.
Community consultation
Council is now seeking community feedback on the draft DAIP. Input from community members, people with disability, carers, families, service providers and stakeholders will help ensure the DAIP reflects local needs and priorities and supports meaningful outcomes for our community.
The draft DAIP is available for public consultation until COB 31 August 2026. All feedback received will be carefully considered before the plan is finalised and adopted by council.
Whyalla City Council encourages all members of the community to have their say and help shape a more accessible and inclusive future for Whyalla.
