Volunteering with Council

Volunteering with Council

Volunteers contribute to vibrant community life in the City of Whyalla. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, make friends, and give back to the community.

Volunteers are people who:

  • Provide services of their own free will
  • Do not receive any monetary reward (out of pocket expenses are covered)
  • Benefit the community and themselves by participating in volunteer programs
  • Complement the work of, but do not replace paid workers

Volunteer opportunities

If you are able to spare a few hours each week or fortnight we would like to hear from you.  Volunteers provide a valuable contribution to our community and there are various volunteer roles to choose from including:

  • Getting involved at the visitor centre and maritime museum
  • Assisting at the library
  • Helping at special events
  • Youth services programs
  • Gardening and litter removal

Benefits of volunteering

Volunteering is a two-way experience that provides many benefits, including:

  • Gaining new skills and experience in an area of interest that can create pathways to employment
  • Meeting new people and being involved in meaningful activities
  • Providing opportunities for people to share their skills and knowledge with others
  • Giving back to our community
