Great news for local footy fans, with Whyalla City Council receiving $25,000 funding to upgrade its Bennett Oval scoreboard!

Council and the Whyalla Football League were among 42 recipients awarded funding, assisting with the installation of a new scoreboard which will further enhance the experience for players, officials, and spectators and ensuring more reliable equipment on game days.

Members from the Whyalla Football league have expressed their gratitude for this generous upgrade ‘’We are very grateful for this addition to local footy and we are looking forward to seeing the positive impact it has on players and spectators.’’

Council’s Community Activation Officer for Sport and Recreation, Alberto Salatino said council was looking forward to finally being able to replace the previous scoreboard, which had a range of technical problems.

"The new scoreboard will be a significant upgrade on what we currently have, so this funding is greatly appreciated by the City of Whyalla and the local football community,” Mr Salatino said.

The South Australian National Football League (SANFL) recently announced funding as part of the SA Football Facilities Fund - a joint initiative of the State Government, SANFL and AFL – which aims to support the significant growth and diversity of football in South Australia.

SANFL CEO Darren Chandler expressed his enthusiasm for the impact of the fund. "From SANFL clubs to local grassroots community clubs, the fund will enhance the capacity of facilities and, importantly, create welcoming and inclusive environments for everyone participating in our game,” Mr Chandler said.

The scoreboard is set to be completed for the next Football season. The City of Whyalla looks forward to the installation with the new scoreboard serving as a valuable asset for years to come.
