Whyalla City Council’s first Councillor Listening Post has proven a success, enabling dozens of residents to ask questions, provide feedback and request action on numerous items across the city.

Several councillors were available at the recent Easter Market on the foreshore, enabling the community to speak to council representatives first-hand and find out more about all things council.

Mayor Phill Stone thanked the residents who took the time to provide feedback on areas they’d like council to focus on and improve.

“It was a great way to talk one-on-one with the community and find out their priorities and concerns, as well as providing an avenue for them to put in requests,” Mayor Stone said.

“We’ve already been able to action some of the more straightforward tasks – removing a tree branch from Ekblom Street for example – and are now following-up on the more complicated matters, which will be reported back to council in due course.

“We thought it was a very worthwhile exercise, so we will now consider whether it’s something that is ongoing.”

Some of the key items discussed on the day included:

  • Rubbish on footpaths / verges
  • Tree trimming
  • Road maintenance
  • Waste management (‘Take the Pledge’ – what goes in each bin)
  • Whyalla-Adelaide flight pricing
  • Foreshore master plan timelines (particularly the water park)

Council also encourages regular and ongoing community feedback to help us continually improve and ensure we’re aware of issues that need addressing. Residents can do this by:
